Magnus’s voice interrupted Ivy’s thoughts, and Finn grabbed her hand, pulling them to their seats beside Correlyn and Rayner. Magnus gave a small speech about Ser Caster and all of his heroic accomplishments. A silence fell over the crowd as they listened, and when Magnus was done, a cheer rose from the people and ale sloshed over horns before being swallowed in one gulp. The music picked up again, and the food started pouring out from the kitchens. Ivy felt someone watching her during supper and scanned the crowd, searching for that white hair. Kyatta stepped out from behind a pillar and caught Ivy’s eyes. She shuddered at the words Kyatta had spoken to her up on the wall. Thunder and fire fell from the sky, consuming everything around it. Ivy had gone over her words again and again but still couldn’t decipher their meaning. Kyatta smiled at Ivy before turning her back and vanishing into the packed crowd of people.

She noticed another pair of blue eyes on her and narrowed her gaze as Piotr lifted his cup to Ivy. He wore a white doublet with gold thread twisting around the sleeves, and his blond hair seemed to glow in the low candlelight. Ivy twitched her mouth and averted her eyes, turning back to Finn, who was running his fingers over his wrist. Ivy looked past him to see Rayner drinking wine from a large cup as his full plate sat in front of him, the food growing cold with every sip that passed his lips. “I’m worried about Rayner.” Ivy leaned into Finn and seemed to startle him. He turned to look at her brother and furrowed his brow.

“Rayner is just enjoying the party,” Finn said.

“Will you talk to him?” Ivy pleaded. Finn turned toward her and brought a hand to her cheek, but his eyes said no. “Please, Finn,” Ivy persisted. “He’ll listen to you.”
